Vol. 487 No. 7

Written Answers. - Army Barracks.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

112 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Defence the position in relation to the future of Irish barracks; and if decisions have been made on which, if any, of these facilities are to close. [5067/98]

The question of the accommodation requirements of the Defence Forces will be considered within the context of the Defence Forces review-implementation plan. A review of barrack requirements will only take place at the end of the three-year phase one implementation period and no barracks will be closed in the interim. The review, which is due to commence later this year, will consider the future role of all Defence Force installations. No decision has been taken in relation to the closure of any barracks other than Collins Barracks, Dublin.
