Frances Fitzgerald

Question:

201 Ms Fitzgerald asked the Minister for Defence if he intends to ensure that search and rescue crews have the technical status and the promotional structure that would recognise and reward their operational expertise and level of responsibility thus ensuring appropriate levels of staffing. [5236/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 123, 149 and 201 together.

The question of technical status has been raised by PDFORRA under the auspices of the conciliation and arbitration scheme. By agreement with the association, matters raised under the scheme are treated as confidential and I am unable, therefore, to comment thereon.

On the question of introducing a new promotional structure, this can only be addressed in the context of the review of the Air Corps and Naval Service which is due to published shortly.
