Vol. 487 No. 7

Written Answers. - Air Corps Equipment.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

203 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Defence the degree to which modern equipment and technology is available to the Air Corps; whether it is proposed to purchase new aircraft or other equipment; whether revised training programmes are envisaged; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5278/98]

In the period from 1988 to 1997 the total amount spent on the purchase and maintenance of Air Corps aircraft and ancillary equipment and on various projects such as the modernisation of air traffic control facilities was in the region of £136 million.

Proposals for the provision of new equipment and the revision of training procedures will be considered in the context of the review of the Air Corps which is nearing completion.
