Vol. 487 No. 8

Written Answers. - Rural Renewal Scheme.

Jack Wall

Question:

31 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if he has discussed the pilot rural renewal scheme initiative with the Department of Finance; if so, the incentives, if any, which will be put in place to encourage development in rural areas; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5157/98]

I have discussed with the Minister for Finance the pilot rural renewal scheme which has been announced as well as other submissions involving rural renewal proposals which I have received. The pilot scheme involves the designation of areas for tax relief incentives for investment. The nature of the incentives and the manner in which the pilot scheme will operate are matters for the Minister for Finance.
