Vol. 487 No. 8

Written Answers. - EU Enlargement.

Billy Timmins

Question:

39 Mr. Timmins asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the projected impact on subsidies and headage payments in countries such as Poland, Estonia, the Czech Republic and Hungary when they join the European Union in the next couple of years. [5302/98]

Negotiations on the terms of accession to the EU of Poland, Estonia, the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovenia and Cyprus are scheduled to commence on 30 March 1998. The extent to which, and the conditions on which, EU subsidies and headage payments will apply to those countries after accession will be determined in these negotiations. Consequently, it is not possible to give an assessment of the likely impact until these details are available.
