Vol. 487 No. 8

Written Answers. - Coastal Zone Management.

Trevor Sargent

Question:

57 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the way in which the consultancy costs for the production of the recent coastal zone management report were met and whether it was through his Department's budget or through European Union funding. [5315/98]

It was agreed that the cost of the production, by Brady Shipman Martin, planning consultants, architects, landscape architects, of Coastal Zone Management — a draft Policy for Ireland, main report and discussion document, launched by myself and the Ministers for the Environment and Local Government and Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands on 2 December 1997 would be met one-third each by other respective Departments. There was no European Union funding involved.

Question:

58 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the tendering procedures that were followed in awarding the consultancy contract for the additional report on coastal zone management currently being undertaken. [5316/98]

The award of the contract to Brady Shipman Martin, planning consultants, architects, landscape architects, for the preparation of "Coastal Zone Management — a draft Policy for Ireland", main report and discussion document followed competitive tendering by five firms. Under a further contract, in relation to the next phase of the process, that firm is currently compiling a digest of all of the submissions received in relation to the discussion document, for the purposes of making the keynote presentation to a public seminar on coastal zone management, which I will open on 30 March in Jury's Hotel, Ballsbridge.
