Vol. 488 No. 1

Written Answers - Military Aviation Facilities.

John Gormley

Question:

101 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the numbers and details of the civilian stopover flights in this country on a monthly basis, since January 1997, that have carried members of armed forces from other nations in transit to areas of hostilities in the world; the regulations, if any, which apply to these flights; and the permission, if any, required. [5722/98]

Civilian flights carrying United States military personnel transit Shannon airport on a regular basis. These aircraft movements are categorised under the rules of the International Civil Aviation Organisation as commercial non-scheduled transit movements and as such do not require Government permission.
