Vol. 488 No. 2

Written Answers. - School Attendance Areas.

Tony Gregory

Question:

196 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education and Science the arrangements, if any, he has made to amend the boundary order, 1995, to extend the school attendance areas to include Cherry Orchard and Ballymun in view of his commitment (details supplied). [5975/98]

As I recently indicated to the House, my Department is currently engaged in the preparation of draft legislation to deal with the complex issues involved in non-school attendance.

My objective is to put in place an effective nationwide system for addressing the needs of children with school attendance problems. The issue raised by the Deputy will be considered as part of the process of developing proposals in this area.
