Vol. 488 No. 2

Written Answers. - Residential Centres Staff.

John Gormley

Question:

74 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Health and Children the counsellor to care recipient ratio that exists in children's homes; whether this ratio improves for children with aggressive backgrounds; and the plans, if any, he has to improve these ratios. [5680/98]

Counsellors are not directly employed in residential centres. Child care workers employed in residential centres are the key persons in responding to the physical, social and emotional needs of children in care. However, if children require specialist intervention, they are referred to the health boards' approved services such as the psychology or child and adolescent psychiatric services or where deemed necessary to other agencies.
