I propose to take Questions Nos. 76, 88 and 126 together.

I recently announced the development of additional public cardiac surgery facilities for adults and children in order to tackle the large backlog of patients awaiting surgery and to guarantee quicker access to cardiac surgery for public hospital patients. I assure the Deputy that my decision represented the best balance available to meet identified regional and national needs in an equitable manner.

I have accepted there is a clear need to develop cardiology services at Cork University Hospital and my Department will be working with the hospital to ensure that it is in a position to meet local and regional needs for this service. My Department is now finalising its consideration of the costings involved and of the details regarding the specific services to be provided.
