Liz McManus

Question:

109 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the particular needs of St. Anthony's boys' national school, Kilcoole, County Wicklow, where children with special needs require to be retrained in their current class arrangements; if he will provide a concessionary post for the school on a short-term basis, if necessary, to support the children; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6057/98]

Liz McManus

Question:

110 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the serious situation at St. Anthony's national school, Kilcoole, County Wicklow where there is an urgent need for a concessionary teacher to meet the needs of the pupils; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6058/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 109 and 110 together.

I am aware of the case made by the school in question for the appointment of a concessionary teacher to cater for special needs children attending the school. I have asked my Department's inspectorate to investigate the educational needs of the children in question and to report on the matter as soon as possible. The resource needs of the school will be considered when the inspectorate's report has been received.
