It is expected that in excess of 100 of the 203 schemes included in the 1998 water and sewerage services investment programme will be completed by the end of 1999. Twenty seven of the schemes included in the programme will receive co-financing under the current Community Support Framework through the Operational Programme for Environmental Services and the INTERREG II Initiative. A further 78 schemes are being co-funded by the Cohesion Fund either in their entirety or elements of them. I propose to circulate in the Official Report a tabular statement listing these schemes. The European Commission have indicated in discussions with my Department their intention to approve a number of additional schemes in 1998 and 1999 for Cohesion Funding. The remaining schemes in the 1998 programme will be funded solely by the Exchequer though it is proposed that a number of these, which will be at construction in the post 1999 period, will be submitted for co-financing under the next round of EU funding.
