Vol. 488 No. 3

Written Answers - Taxi Forum.

Michael D. Higgins

Question:

43 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the plans, if any, he has to alter the arrangement for licensing taxis; if he has satisfied himself with the number of taxis available in Dublin; the number of meetings of the taxi forum which have taken place in 1998; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [5907/98]

The Dublin Taxi Forum has met on three occasions to date and it is hoped to conclude its work in June 1998. Pending recommendations from the forum, I have no proposal at present to amend the current regime regarding the issue of taxi licences in Dublin; much of this now stands devolved to Dubln Corporation who have already taken certain steps to increase the number of taxis in Dublin.
