43 Mr. M. Higgins asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the plans, if any, he has to alter the arrangement for licensing taxis; if he has satisfied himself with the number of taxis available in Dublin; the number of meetings of the taxi forum which have taken place in 1998; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The Dublin Taxi Forum has met on three occasions to date and it is hoped to conclude its work in June 1998. Pending recommendations from the forum, I have no proposal at present to amend the current regime regarding the issue of taxi licences in Dublin; much of this now stands devolved to Dubln Corporation who have already taken certain steps to increase the number of taxis in Dublin.
