Vol. 488 No. 3

Written Answers - Grant Aid.

Jim Mitchell

Question:

49 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources the amount of grant aid received by each Irish port from 1 January 1989 to date; and the origin of this grant aid. [6069/98]

Overall investment in marine infractructural development at Irish commercial seaports supported by grant aid amounted to over £150 million during the period in question.

Co-financing of this investment was provided by the EU through a range of funding mechanisms including the Operational Programme for Peripherality, 1989-93, Operational Programme for Transport, Ireland/Wales Maritime INTERREG Community Initiative and the Cohesion Fund, 1994-99. Exchequer funding totalling some £7.0 million was also made available to a number of ports directly through the Department.

It is not possible in the time available to provide a comprehensive and detailed breakdown of the grant aid allocations. The Department will provide such a breakdown directly to the Deputy as soon as the information is completed.
