Vol. 488 No. 3

Written Answers - Afforestation Programme.

Joe Higgins

Question:

51 Mr. Higgins (Dublin West) asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources further to Parliamentary Questions No. 130 of 2 December 1997 and No. 135 of 10 February 1998, the amount of land afforested for each year owned by Coillte; the amount owned by farmers practising farming as their main income; and the amount owned by non-farmer investors. [6083/98]

The forest service of my Department has grant-aided afforestation for the areas of land set out as follows in the years in question.

In general, the areas of land listed below approximate to actual planting in the relevant years. However, due to exceptional circumstances at the end of 1997, approximately 2,500 hectares afforested in 1997 were not grant-aided until early 1998.
