62 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food the basic EU price and the average EU market price for sheepmeat on a bi-monthly basis for the past two years and the EU premium calculated as a result; and the rural world premium paid to compensate hill sheep farmers for losses incurred in the sheep market in general. The ewe premium was 16.869 ecu in 1996 (£13.99) and 14.967 ecu in 1997 (£12.42). The rural world premium for both years was calculated at 6.5 ecu (£5.51).
