71 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Finance when the last open general recruitment for Civil Service staff, in particular, for clerical assistant, clerical typist, clerical officer and executive officer was held; and when the next recruitment for each grade is scheduled. [6073/98]
The information sought by the Deputy is as follows. The last open executive officer competition was advertised in 1997, the first part of the written test being held in January 1998; the competition is still ongoing. Previously, an executive officer competition was advertised in 1995, from which appointments are still being made. At this stage, I would expect that the next open executive officer competition would be advertised next autumn.
An open clerical assistant competition — clerical, typing and data entry — was advertised in 1994 and a clerical assistant — typing — competition in 1997. An open clerical officer competition has not been held since 1986. However, as a result of restructuring, a single clerical grade entitled "clerical officer" has replaced, inter alia, the grades of clerical assistant and clerical officer. It is envisaged that an open competition for positions in this clerical officer grade will be held this year.
