Vol. 488 No. 3

Written Answers - Water and Sewerage Schemes.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

89 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the progress, if any, made in regard to a sludge management study for the proposed sewerage scheme at Burtonport, County Donegal. [6063/98]

The proposals with my Department for this scheme do not include provision for such a study. Sludge management plans are generally formulated on a countywide rather than scheme basis. In this connection, my Department has engaged consultants to prepare a guidance document on the preparation by local authorities of sludge management plans. The guidance document is expected to be available towards the end of this year.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

90 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government if submissions were made at any stage to the EU for funding for the Burtonport and Ardara, County Donegal sewerage schemes. [6064/98]

Cohesion Funding has been sought for these schemes as part of an application submitted to the EU Commission in respect of the Gaeltacht area sewerage scheme in County Donegal. Approval has not been forthcoming and the prospects of funding under the current Cohesion Fund are not good.
