Vol. 488 No. 5

Written Answers - Harbours and Piers.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

58 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if he will provide funding for the repair, improvement and extension of the slipway at Castletownsend, County Cork. [6740/98]

The pier and slipway at Castletownsend are owned by Cork County Council and their repair and maintenance are the responsibility of the local authority.

The funding at the disposal of the Department for development works is limited and is focused primarily on the key fishery harbours. I regret that it is unlikely, therefore, that aid can be provided for works at Castletownsend from my Department's Vote in the short-term. The matter will, however, be kept under review, in consultation with Cork County Council, having regard to available funds.
