Question:

92 Mr. Stanton asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the number on the local authority housing lists as notified by Cork County Council; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6651/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 91 and 92 together.

In March, 1996, local authorities, including Cork County Council and Cobh Urban District Council, carried out an assessment of housing needs in their areas. Details of the results based on returns from local authorities are included in Part XII of my Department's annual housing statistics bulletin for 1996, copies of which are available in the Oireachtas Library. The next statutory assessment of local authority housing needs is due in March 1999. A statement showing the number of housing starts authorised for each local authority, including Cobh Urban District Court, for 1998 is available in the Oireachtas Library.
