186 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science the date on which formal approval was granted by his Department for a physical education hall at St. Mac Dara's community college, Dublin 6; the date on which each subsequent stage in this project's planning process was reached; and the projected date for commencement of construction. My Department approved the provision of a physical education hall at St. Mac Dara's community college on 28 April 1995. The outline sketch scheme was requested from County Dublin VEC's design team on 4 April 1996 and it was received in the building unit on 18 September 1996. The submission was found to be unsatisfactory because it was incomplete and a revised scheme was submitted on 7 January 1997.
The detail design-contract documents were requested on 11 June 1997 and were received on 16 October 1997. The submission has been examined by my Department's technical staff and the County Dublin VEC's design team has been requested to achieve reductions and bring the cost plan within the Department's limits. As soon as this matter has been resolved, the project will be allowed to go to tender.
It is not possible to say when construction will commence but it is the intention of my Department to proceed to construction as soon as the tendering process has been completed.

My Department approved the provision of a physical education hall at Coláiste Chríost Rí, in Cork in November 1997. The stage 1 submission, namely, the site suitability report was submitted by the school's design team in January 1998 and is currently being examined by my Department's technical staff. A response will issue to the school authorities as soon as possible. At this early stage of the architectural planning, it is not possible to indicate when construction will commence.
