Question:89 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the number of Garda vehicles that are equipped with the stinger, which can successfully slow down and stop a joyriding vehicle. [6693/98]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that 172 stinger vehicle stopping devices have been issued to Garda divisions. The question of which station vehicles are equipped with the stinger devices is a matter for the officer in charge of each division.
