Vol. 488 No. 7

Written Answers. - Migraine Clinic.

Michael Ring

Question:

213 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Health and Children his views on the establishment of the first headache and migraine clinic in Ireland in line with other European countries; if he will sanction funding to Beaumont Hospital (details supplied), Dublin 9, in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6933/98]

I understand that the Irish Migraine Association has formally requested the establishment of a headache/migraine clinic at Beaumont Hospital. The association is currently fundraising for this clinic. Beaumont Hospital's management has confirmed that it supports the establishment of this clinic. However, it must fall to be considered within the context of the hospital's overall priorities, and the many competing development demands for its acute services. In this regard, the hospital's management has indicated that such a clinic is not included in its priorities for development in 1998.
