Vol. 488 No. 7

Written Answers. - Amsterdam Treaty.

Joe Higgins

Question:

270 Mr. Higgins (Dublin West) asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the measures, if any, his Department propose to take to implement the sustainable development section of the Amsterdam Treaty. [6961/98]

I refer to the reply to Question No. 241 of 20 February 1998. As a referendum to amend the Constitution must be held in order to enable the State to ratify the treaty, it would be premature for me to refer specifically to its implementation. However, sustainable development is also a national objective, and will be pursued as such.
