Vol. 488 No. 7

Written Answers. - Road Classification.

Austin Currie

Question:

287 Mr. Currie asked the Minister for the Environment and Local Government the circumstances in which the Lower Road, Strawberry Beds, Dublin 20 was up-graded to a regional route, R109; the consultations, if any, which took place in advance of that decision; whether the adverse effects on the area's designation as an area of special amenity were considered; if he will reverse the classifications; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7110/98]

Regional roads were first classified on an informal basis in 1979. Lower Road, Strawberry Beds, which was a main road (link road L2), was included in the new classification and assigned the number R109 at this time and many years prior to the making of the special amenity area order for this area.

The existing regional road network was placed on a statutory basis on 1 January 1995 with the making of the Roads Act, 1993 (Declaration of Regional Roads) Order, 1994. There is no proposal at present to amend this order.
