Question:

353 Mr. Enright asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the total number of cases before circuit courts which are listed or are pending for hearing in which building societies, banks and other financial institutions are seeking repossession and recovery of family farms; if he will give details of these applications for each county; and the total number of orders granted by the courts to these financial institutions in this regard during the past 12 months. [7048/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 351 to 353 inclusive.

The information sought in the Deputy's questions is not readily available and the compilation of this information would involve the allocation of scarce staff resources. However, I have been furnished with information in relation to court orders for possession of lands and premises lodged in sheriffs' offices for execution which is included in the following table.

I should point out that not all orders granted by the courts are lodged with sheriffs for execution. In addition, in many cases where orders are lodged with sheriffs for execution, the order is returned unexecuted following resolution of the matters at issue between the parties and, in addition, requests are received by the Sheriffs to defer execution of an order while discussions aimed at resolving matters between parties take place.
