Vol. 488 No. 7

Written Answers. - Communications Masts.

John Gormley

Question:

367 Mr. Gormley asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the total number of attempts to sabotage mobile phone masts. [7278/98]

I am informed by the Garda authorities that crime statistics are not compiled in such a way as to provide readily the information sought by the Deputy for any given period. Malicious damage of the type referred to in the question could be an offence under a number of different statutory provisions depending on the type of incident or the damage involved. I should add that I am also informed by the Garda authorities that they are not aware of any particular concern at a local level that there is any significant degree of such incidents.
