Vol. 488 No. 7

Written Answers. - Garda Deployment.

Brian O'Shea

Question:

374 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the proposals, if any, he has in the short and medium term to increase the Garda complement in Waterford city; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7404/98]

The detailed deployment of Garda personnel and resources to individual areas is a matter for the Garda authorities. They have informed me that Waterford city is policed by the gardaí assigned to Waterford Garda station. The current Garda strength of Waterford Garda station, as of 28 February 1998, is 120 members, all ranks.

I am further informed by the Garda authorities that it is envisaged that four additional gardaí will be allocated to Waterford Garda station with the allocation of probationer gardaí scheduled for 3 April 1998.

I am assured by the Garda authorities that the deployment of resources in Waterford city is continually monitored with a view to ensuring that its policing requirements are adequately met.
