Question:

385 Mr. C. Lenihan asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if the areas to be covered by the youth development fund grant of £30 million will approximate the areas covered by local drug task forces. [7362/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 384 and 385 together.

The Government have committed £30 million to the young people's facilities and services fund over the next three years, to support a range of capital and non-capital projects in disadvantaged areas. At least £20 million of the fund will be targeted at those areas particularly affected by the heroin problem. The detailed arrangements for the operation of the fund, including the specific areas to be covered by it, are currently being finalised and will be submitted to Government for approval as soon as possible.
