47 Mr. Ferris asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation the total number of applications for national lottery funding his Department has received in 1998; the total monetary value of these applications; the number of applications made on a county by county basis; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The number of applications for funding received by my Department between 1 January 1998 and the closing date for receipt of applications under the existing sports capital programme — 11 February 1998 — was 471.

Since then, over 40 more applications have been received but cannot be considered for funding in the 1998 round under the existing programme as they arrived after the advertised closing date. The number of applications made on a county by county basis is set out in the tabular statement which I propose, to circulate in the Official Report.

It is not possible to state the exact monetary value of the total applications as in quite a number of them no specific amount is stated for grant assistance being sought.

My Department is examining all applications, 1,400 approximately, on hand at 11 February, including those received in 1998 up to that date, and all other outstanding applications for national lottery funding received in previous years, in the context of the 1998 round of allocations. I hope to be in a position to announce these allocations shortly.
