Vol. 488 No. 7

Written Answers. - Legal Metrology Service.

Beverley Flynn

Question:

68 Ms Cooper-Flynn asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment the plans, if any, she has to locate a legal metrology service in County Mayo; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7373/98]

The Legal Metrology Service was reorganised and a new service established under the operational control of Forbairt on 12 May 1997. The Metrology Act, 1996, gives effect to the new organisational structure.

The new service operates from eight new well equipped regional centres in Dublin, Cork, Athlone, Dundalk, Galway, Limerick, Sligo and Waterford. The Mayo area is served from the centres at Galway and Sligo.

It is not intended that any further centres will be opened.
