Question:

94 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources when the fishing season will open for the draft net fishermen of Owenmore, Ballycroy, Westport, County Mayo, on the Owenduff (details supplied). [7495/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 92, 93 and 94 together.

The draft net fishing season is scheduled to open on the Owenduff river on 12 May. Because of the need to conserve salmon stocks I have renewed vital conservation measures introduced last year for 1998. In this context it would not be appropriate to open the season on the Owenduff river earlier than 12 May.
