Vol. 488 No. 7

Written Answers. - Natural Gas Supply.

Emmet Stagg

Question:

103 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Public Enterprise when Bord Gáis will provide a supply of natural gas to Carrick-on-Suir; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7367/98]

I am informed by Bord Gáis Éireann, BGE, that it has decided to extend the natural gas supply to Carrick-on-Suir and that BGE staff are negotiating with South Tipperary County Council in relation to project details and programmes. Subject to all conditions being agreed with the county council a provisional start date of late April 1998 is anticipated. I understand the project is scheduled to be carried out in two phases. The first phase will take approximately two months for mainlaying construction into the town, to be followed by a second phase, which will take a further two months for mainlaying works in existing housing estates, etc.
