Vol. 489 No. 3

Written Answers. - Inland Fisheries.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

40 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if he will make a statement on the progress of the Corrib system development plan introduced in 1997 with the objective of restoring the system as premier wild brown trout fisheries; if his attention has been drawn to concerns expressed by the Trout Anglers Federation of Ireland in relation to the failure to implement the plan; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8010/98]

I would refer to my reply of 24 March when I outlined current developments in relation to this important project. I am aware of the concerns expressed by the Trout Anglers Federation of Ireland and I will be meeting the federation tomorrow to review their concerns and indeed to allay those concerns regarding the implementation of the next phase of this programme for the Western Lakes.
