Vol. 489 No. 3

Written Answers. - Water Quality Report.

Eamon Gilmore

Question:

49 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources if he has received the report from the Central Fisheries Board on the progress on implementation of the water quality action programme announced in August 1997; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8009/98]

I expect to receive a detailed progress report shortly from the Central Fisheries Board on the actions which the board is taking to deliver on the six point water quality action plan which I announced last August. Discussions are ongoing involving the Department, the Central and Regional Fisheries Board and the Department of the Environment and Local Government to ensure co-operation and complementarity in the use of all available resources to improve and protect water quality fisheries in advance of the critical summer months. As previously undertaken I will advise the Deputy of the fully up-to-date position as soon as the Central Fisheries Board reports to me.
