Vol. 489 No. 3

Written Answers. - Agri-business Funding.

John Perry

Question:

110 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if funding will be made available for the development of the proposed agribusiness park in Crossmolina, County Mayo in view of the fact this park will provide full and part time employment in the production of mushrooms, grading and packing seed potato as well as preparing daffodil flowers for the market; and if he will make a statement on the submission of a company (details supplied). [7891/98]

John Perry

Question:

119 Mr. Perry asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food if a company (details supplied) in County Mayo can be funded from the remaining FEOGA funds; where this company can secure funding in order to build the store and provide the quality required in the market place; if he will explore all funding possibilities with the Department of Enterprise, Trade and Employment; and if he will make a statement on the submission (details supplied). [7890/98]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 110 and 119 together.

The FEOGA marketing and processing scheme does not cover the development of agri-business parks. The company concerned did, however, submit an application under the FEOGA scheme in respect of those elements of the project eligible under that scheme. Eligibility does not, however, confer entitlement to support and all applications are considered on their merits under a strict assessment and selection process. The project in this particular instance was not selected for support.
