Vol. 489 No. 3

Written Answers. - Ordnance Survey Maps.

Jim O'Keeffe

Question:

150 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Finance if he has satisfied himself with the operations of the Ordnance Survey Office; if his attention has been drawn to the fact that the map of Cork city, normally distributed through tourist outlets, has been unavailable for the past three months; the steps, if any, being taken to ensure that supply matches market demand; the steps, if any, being taken to remedy the situation in relation to the Cork city map; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8101/98]

The position is that Ordnance Survey Ireland publishes a large and growing number of quality map products covering the entire country. All of these publications are printed by OSI at its headquarters in Dublin according to a print programme designed to match output to demand, in so far as this is possible.

As regards the Cork city map, I am informed by the director of Ordnance Survey Ireland that copies of the map are available for purchase from certain outlets in Cork city at present. OSI will be reprinting the Cork city map within the next fortnight to replenish its stocks in order to meet anticipated tourist demand for this product during the summer months.
