Vol. 489 No. 4

Written Answers. - State Documents.

Jim Mitchell

Question:

55 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the further reports, if any, he has received from the Attorney General or any other source in relation to the leakage of State documents prior to the recent presidential election; if the Attorney General has received any reports, queries or files on the matter; if, after the elapse of over four months, inquiries are completed in the matter; and, if not, when it is intended to complete the inquiries so that innocent persons on whom suspicion has been cast can have their reputations restored. [5782/98]

I understand that the Garda investigation into the leaking of documents prepared by officials in the Department of Foreign Affairs is still ongoing. As the Deputy is aware, it is not normal practice to comment on specific Garda investigations and I do not propose to depart from that practice on this occasion.
