Vol. 489 No. 4

Written Answers. - Visit by US President.

Ruairí Quinn

Question:

74 Mr. Quinn asked the Minister for Foreign Affairs the discussions, if any, there have been with the White House in relation to a possible visit to this country by the President of the United States of America as reported in the media; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [3892/98]

The question of a possible visit to Ireland by the President of the United States of America has arisen during recent contacts with the White House. President Clinton has also indicated, in a recent press conference that, depending on the evoluation of the peace process and the advice of the Irish and British Governments, he would be willing to travel to Ireland, if that would be helpful. The Government would greatly welcome such a visit.
