Vol. 489 No. 5

Written Answers. - Departmental Contracts.

Bernard J. Durkan

Question:

135 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if, further to Parliamentary Question No. 145 of 26 March 1998, approval from his Department was required in relation to these contracts; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8521/98]

As the reply referred to by the press release dated 22 December 1997. Deputy concerned contracts awarded by my Department, and by bodies under the aegis of my Department, I assume that in his current question the Deputy is referring to contracts awarded by such agencies or bodies.

The awarding of contracts by bodies under the aegis of my Department is a day-to-day matter for the bodies themselves and approval from my Department for these contracts is not required. However, I can assure the Deputy the Government's guidelines on public procurement apply to the bodies in question.
