Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Nora Owen

Question:

140 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Education and Science the commitments, if any, he recently gave to the De La Salle/Holy Faith community school, Skerries, County Dublin; and the schedule for provision of each of the various elements of the programme. [8433/98]

An application in respect of an extension at the Holy Faith/De la Salle secondary school, Skerries, County Dublin, has been received and processed in my Department. A schedule of accommodation, consisting of general classrooms, specialists rooms and PE hall, to be provided in the proposed new extension has been forwarded to the school authorities and officials in the planning and building unit of my Department are currently awaiting the written agreement of the school authority. Once this agreement is received, arrangements will be put in place for the appointment of a design team. It is my intention that architectural planning of the extension for Holy Faith/De la Salle will be initiated at the earliest opportunity.

I have authorised my Department to proceed with the tender and contract process for a one classroom extension at St. Andrew's national school, Malahide, County Dublin. As soon as the tender documentation is finalised, the plan is to invite tenders for this project to allow construction commence during the summer.
