143 Mr. O'Shea asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of schools from the Waterford constituency among the approximate 1,300 replies received to the Department's circular and questionnaire of November 1997 regarding the pilot project for the introduction of modern languages into primary schools; the number and names of schools from the Waterford constituency selected; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8436/98]

A total of 38 schools from County Waterford responded to the Department's circular and questionnaire regarding the pilot project for the introduction of modern languages into primary schools.

The process of selecting approximately 250 schools nationwide to participate in the pilot project is nearing completion. The schools selected for inclusion in the project will be notified in the near future.
