Vol. 489 No. 5

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

John McGuinness

Question:

149 Mr. McGuinness asked the Minister for Education and Science the action, if any, his Department will take to render safe the set down area at Clinstown national school, County Kilkenny, in view of the danger to pupils, teachers and parents caused by the increased use of this road by heavy vehicles and commercial traffic; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8507/98]

My Department's building unit recently received an application for grant assistance towards the cost of a bus pull-in, staff car-park and a safety entrance at Clinstown national school, County Kilkenny. The local Office of Public Works has been requested to furnish a report on the proposed works. When this report is received, a decision will be taken on the application in the light of the urgency of the works and available capital funding. The school manager will be notified of the outcome.

Nora Owen

Question:

150 Mrs. Owen asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will provide resources for eight additional classrooms, an extended general purposes room and ancillary facilities to the Donabate girls and boys national school, County Dublin; and the timescale for these new facilities. [8512/98]

Architectural planning for an eight classroom extension plus ancillary accommodation at St. Patrick's boys and girls national schools will commence shortly.

A meeting to discuss this building project will be arranged shortly between officials of my Department and the school management.

At this early stage in the planning process, it is not possible to give a realistic timescale for the new facilities.
