30 Mr. McDowell asked the Minister for Public Enterprise further to Parliamentary Question No. 127 of 24 February 1998, the process in discussions on the viability plan for the CIE group of companies; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [8381/98]
As I stated in my reply on 24 February last, the CIE subsidiary companies and unions representing their employees have been engaged in negotiations on necessary change and restructuring for some time. I am advised that these on-going negotiations are being conducted in a constructive manner and that reasonable progress is being made, albeit slowly. The parties are being assisted in their negotiations by the Labour Relations Commission.
