Vol. 489 No. 5

Written Answers. - Whitegate Oil Refinery.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Question:

49 Mrs. B. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Public Enterprise if the mandatory review for off-take of produce from Whitegate Refinery, County Cork, will be removed in the foreseeable future; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [8374/98]

I have received the consultants' report on the outlook for the refining industry and the financial challenges facing INPC to which I referred in my reply of 12 November last on this subject. I am at present considering the report's conclusions and recommendations. Until the Government has decided on what action is appropriate based on my advice, it would be premature to comment on future policy on the mandatory regime at this stage.
