Vol. 489 No. 5

Written Answers. - Public Mental Hospitals.

Joe Higgins

Question:

102 Mr. Higgins (Dublin West) asked the Minister for Health and Children the figures for public capital expenditure on public mental hospitals excluding expenditure outside the mental hospitals for the years 1960-69, 1970-79, 1980-89 and 1990 to date. [8438/98]

The feasibility of assembling the information requested by the Deputy has been under consideration in my Department. There are administrative difficulties in relation to the compilation of this information because capital expenditure relevant to psychiatric hospitals is included under more general headings in the Department's capital programme and it is a difficult and protracted task to separate the relevant components of expenditure for the periods involved.

I will furnish the Deputy with the information in so far as it is possible to collect, as soon as possible.
