Vol. 489 No. 6

Written Answers. - Land Commission Rents.

Michael Ring

Question:

319 Mr. Ring asked the Minister for Agriculture and Food when a person (details supplied) in County Mayo commenced renting his Land Commission land; when he first started paying for it; and the amount he currently owes on the land in view of the fact that he is now in receipt of bills for this which he feels he has already paid. [9228/98]

The person in question is liable for a total half-yearly payment of £49.62 in repayment of advances made by the Land Commission. Details are as follows:

Because the total of all the instalments is payable until all advances have been repaid, this has the effect of shortening the repayment periods of each advance with the result that the final payment of £49.62 should be made in June 2008.
If the person in question does not wish to continue paying the half yearly instalments until 2008, he may instead make a lump sum payment and clear his accounts; the present cost of doing so is approximately £800, including the instalment falling due on 1 June 1998.
