Question:354 Mr. Stagg asked the Minister for Finance if his Department has a free telephone number, 1890, for the convenience of the public; and, if so, the action, if any, taken to bring this service to public notice. [8725/98]

This Department has no free telephone number. However, we operate a LoCall (1890) number which enables callers from anywhere outside the Dublin (01) telephone area to telephone the Department at local call rates.
This service has been advertised in the national press, the Department of Finance's page on the Internet and in the booklet "Improving Customer Service Standards - An Action Plan 1998-1999" published by the Department last December.
