Vol. 489 No. 6

Written Answers. - Foreign Adoptions.

Dan Neville

Question:

380 Mr. Neville asked the Minister for Health and Children if the co-operation heretofore between the Chinese Government and International Orphan Aid Society has changed; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8881/98]

During my recent visit to China I was informed by the Chinese authorities that they wished to process all future adoptions on a "State to State" basis only. Irish couples wishing to adopt from China must transmit their papers via the Irish Adoption Board which has been transmitting papers to China since September, 1996.
