Vol. 489 No. 6

Written Answers. - Methadone Treatment Services.

Jim Mitchell

Question:

435 Mr. J. Mitchell asked the Minister for Health and Children if the committee established for the purpose of implementing all of the recommendations of the methadone treatment services review group's report would meet Deputy Mr. J. Mitchell and other public representatives from the Dublin Central constituency and representatives of the community organisations in the Inchicore area, in relation to the way in which they propose to implement the recommendations of the report and, in particular, the timescale in this regard; and, if so, if this meeting could be arranged in the very near future. [8863/98]

The committee to which the Deputy refers, which was established following the Report of the Methadone Treatment Services Review Group, is chaired by an official in the Drugs-AIDS Service Division of the Eastern Health Board.

The board has indicated that key representatives of the committee will meet with Deputy Mitchell and other public representatives from Dublin Central constituency and representatives of the community organisations in the Inchicore area to brief them on progress on the implementation of recommendations of the report. The chairman of the committee will be in contact with the Deputy's office shortly in order to arrange a suitable time and venue for the meeting.
